Fernando Vera Moreno (Zaragoza, España, 12/09/1975). Formed in the Bigas Luna Film Workshop, the New York Film Academy and different courses in script, direction and production. Diploma in Teaching by the University of Zaragoza.  Audiovisual producer with more than 15 years of experience in management and production teams.  Experience for more than four years in the preparation and implementation of educational programs that take the cinema as a pedagogical tool in different schools, both in primary and secondary. Responsible for award-winning short films inside and outside of Spain, launch campaigns for brands nationwide and several institutional documentaries.

After being shunned by his homophobic father for his sexuality and his lover for not being a woman,  Manob finds himself travelling to the city for a sex change operation. However, as he struggles with his identity, he faces challenges and questions he may not be ready to confront yet.

Hailing from a small Indian town, Tathagata has always believed in telling stories of people from different social backgrounds.  People who do not have a voice of their own.  Tathagata writes for various leading web film magazines as well about cinema and film making. His articles have been published in some of the leading web film magazines of India too like Jamuura.  His detective novel “Senilar Sonket” got published in the Kolkata International Book Fair 2016 in February. He has also directed numerous commercials, music videos and written screenplays for several projects. His last short “The Demon”(Doitto) has travelled to more than 25 major international film festivals, competing for Best Short and has won 4 awards so far.

Didem Pekún

A’raf – a Turkish word for limbo or purgatory – symbolises the borderland between heaven and hell for those who are, from incapacity, neither morally bad nor good, according to Qur’an. In this very special essayistic road movie,  we follow a diary of Nayia, a ghostly character who travels between Srebrenica, Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  She has been in exile since the war and returns for the memorial of the Srebrenica genocide. Her diary notes merge with the myth of Daedalus and Icarus – Icarus being the name given to the winner of a bridge-diving competition in her home country. This years-old tradition in Mostar appears as a central motif of the film. The carefully chosen visual style with black and white photography remarkably emphasises the emotional state and grief of people at the Srebrenica Memorial.

DIRECTOR,S STATEMENT

I was in a trance when I was making this film, or perhaps in a nightmare I was unable to snap out of.  Everything fell into place in that manner, in the sense of how the team came together, how the production materialized out of a series of what almost looked like impossibilitie The film is also an elegy in slow motion; an elegy of an event that the world fast-forwarded. I wanted to rewind and replay and really look to see through the commemoration, because commemoration is an act of protest against this repulsive phenomenon of genocide and the desire to erase a people from history.

DIDEM  PEKÚN

Didem Pekün was born in 1978 in Istanbul, Turkey.  Her work explores both artistic research and practice. In her essay films, she addresses how violence and displacement define and destroy life. Her documentaries and video installations have been shown internationally and have received various awards.  She is a founding member of the Center for Spatial Justice (MAD).  She holds a BA in Music from SOAS, an MA in Documentary from Goldsmiths, and a practice-based PhD in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths, University of London. After being a faculty member at Koç University, a Research Fellow at Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths, a Joint Fellow at Institute for Advanced Studies & Visual Studies Platform at CEU, Budapest, she is currently a fellow at Graduate School / Berlin Center for the Advanced Studies in Arts and Sciences.

Objector
Molly Stuart
Israel.  2019.  75 min

Like most young adults in Israel,  Atalya is required to join the army. She strongly objects to the army’s role in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and doesn’t want to be part of it.  But she’s also scared that if she refuses to do military service, people will view her as a traitor.  She talks at length about her intentions with family members, who have differing opinions on the matter. It’s striking how much real listening is done, and how much space there is for dissenting views. The way her grandfather lovingly clasps her hand in his as he says it’s “so stupid” to be an objector, is telling.

While preparing herself for a possible jail sentence of indefinite length,  Atalya makes increasingly frequent visits to the occupied territories. There, she sees Palestinians being chased from their homes, which are subsequently destroyed. She also gets into contact with other objectors.

Slowly but surely, she transforms from a 19-year-old with a strong sense of justice into a leader of a group of young people who are saying “no” to the occupation, and who don’t see military service the way the older generations do: as a necessary step on the road to adulthood.

MOLLY  STUART

Molly Stuart is an up-and-coming filmmaker with a message to send. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area,  Molly was a 2018 Women Peace and Security Fellow.  She did all this while earning an MFA in cinema at San Francisco State University. That’s not all.  Molly has won the Bill Nichols Excellence in Cinema Award, the Canon Best in Show Award, the Spotlight on Women in Film Award, and the Barbara Hammer Award.

Molly has also won several film festival awards, including Best Documentary Short, Best Short, and Best Young Storyteller Award. Previously,  Molly has worked on other projects including Guy Hircefield, a Guy with a Camera and A Wake.

Gamak Ghar
Achal Mishra

The film takes place in the ancestral home in Madhopur village in Bihar.  Gamak Ghar (The house in the village) unfolds over three phases – 1998, 2010 and the present.  The members of the clan live elsewhere and reconvene in the house on festivals.  They make trips to their mango orchard, catch up on the gossip, watch television together and take dips in the local pool for Chhath Puja celebrations.

Over the years, the number of visitors dwindles. The house starts to lose its sparkle, partly because of recurring floods, and there is talk of reconstructing it.

The film is in the Maithili language spoken in the region.  The characters are based on Mishra’s family members, and are played by neighbours and other villagers.  A photograph of the family patriarch, the playwright and actor Kedar Nath Mishra, is a talismanic presence in the film.  He is not a creature of the imagination, but is actually the director’s grandfather.

ACHAL  MISHRA

Achal Mishra is a 22-year-old, self-taught filmmaker and photographer. A native of Darbhanga – a small town in the North Indian state of Bihar,  he started making films during his school days, and went on to undergraduate Film Studies at King’s College.  After a brief stint in London, which was largely spent watching and absorbing cinema, he returned to India and has been making short films since then. Gamak Ghar is his first feature film.

Mosley
Michael Shevloff

The film chronicles both the highs and lows of Mosley’s career, during which he was one of Formula 1’s main powerbrokers as President the FIA from 1993-2009.

Produced and directed by Michael Shevloff,  Mosley follows Shevlov’s previous work :  Life at the Limit, which explored F1’s approach to safety and the impact of Professor Sid Watkins.

Featuring appearances from Bernie Ecclestone, Jean Todt,  Flavio Briatore and Gerhard Berger among others,  Mosley himself has promised the film will be a “warts and all thing”.

It’s got everything in it, including the News of the World and what’s happened since.  Bernie’s interview is interesting,  because they go into the whole thing of whose side was he on when the story came out.

“Someone asked does it include Hitler being a guest as his parents’ wedding? The answer is yes it does.”  Mosley’s father Oswald was the leader of the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s.

“There are one or two elements in it that if I were in charge, I would cut out,” Mosley admitted.  “But then it would take away the whole point of it – it needs to be independent.”

MICHAEL  SHEVLOFF

Michael Shevloff is an award-winning television, film and documentary producer/showrunner and now director.  Shevloff began his career in England working on feature films such as Empire of the Sun, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and Full Metal Jacket.  Michael produced a series of independent films including the Sundance hit, Bandwagon and the critically acclaimed independent films The Big Empty and La Cucaracha.

Disabled Katya and her mother moved in a new apartment.  After a quarrel Katya break an ampoule with medicine. Later she founds out that she can stand on her legs. Then Katya discovers, that all these years mother poisoning her. She decided to escape. To be saved she injects a big amount of medicine into mothers back.

Alexander Myskin was born in Pyt’-Yakh.  He got a qualification as a translator in business communications in 2010. Aleksandr graduated Omsk State Technical University, course of Information Technology in Media Industry.  He worked as a designer in an advertising agency and lectured in Omsk State Technical University. In 2017 he got into Industry Film School.

Nikita Vlasov was born in Voronezh. He got a diploma of an economist, after that he worked in Bank VTB 24.  One day he came to senses and resigned. Moved to Moscow, where he graduated from the State Institute of Cinematography (as known as VGIK), Screenwriting and Film History Department (course of Yurij Arabov). However he’s understood, that he wants not only to tell stories, but also to show them. He entered the Industry Film School at the Directing Department.

Omar and Us

Ismet recently retired from his work as Commander of the Coast Guard.  Now a civilian, he struggles to communicate with his family and the people around him.  His only son has left for the U.S and now his wife wants to join him.  When two Syrian refugees, Omar and Mariye, come to live in his neighborhood, near the Turkish-Greek border,  Ismet finds himself facing his prejudices and his political views.

MARYNA ER GORBACH – MEHMET BAHADIR ER

Mehmet Bahadır Er received his undergraduate degree on cinema-TV from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University where he took classes from Metin Erksan, Duygu Sağıroğlu and Memduh Ün.  He received many important awards from Antalya Golden Orange, Adana Golden Boll, Ankara Film Festival, IFSAK, Istanbul Independent Films Festival, and Sony Entertainment with the films which he directed.  He currently works as director and producer to feature films, TV series and commercials.

Maryna Er Gorbach is a film director from Ukraine.  She studied in Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary University for Theater, Cinema and Television.  After her graduation she directed a weekly documentary for ICTV of 30 episodes.  She received her graduate degree in Poland, from the Oscar recipient director Andrzej Wajda‘s university as his student.  She directed films based on Psychological Gesture Technique for acting which were selected for many prestigious festivals such as Berlin, Rotterdam, Montreal, Tokyo, New York, and Stockholm, and received awards.  Mehmet Bahadır Er and Maryna Er Gorbach made their first feature film “Black Dogs Barking” ( Kara Köpekler Havlarken) in 2009.

Solovetsky Monastery was built in 15th century.  It’s a sacral place, in its history Holiness and tragedy was merged, unity with God and the terrible challenges of the special purpose camp. This is a place where today everyone is looking for an answer to the main question who I am. The main character of the film goes there to shoot his documentary, and everything starts to go wrong.

Ella Tukhareli is a documentary filmmaker, born and raised in Saratov, where she graduated from the faculty of philosophy of the Saratov State University. Now she works as the main Director of “United Media Group“. Her films are winners of Russian and international festivals.
