Lã Quý Tùng is a Vietnamese visual artist and acclaimed production designer whose work bridges cinema, contemporary art, and design. Known for his distinctive approach to visual storytelling, he has created the artistic worlds of numerous Vietnamese and international film productions, earning three awards for Outstanding Art Direction at the Vietnam Film Festival.

Born in 1966 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Lã Quý Tùng studied Oil Painting at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1990. While still a student in 1988, he began his career in cinema as part of the art department for Jean-Jacques Annaud’s The Lover (L’Amant), filmed in Vietnam. This early experience marked the beginning of a decades-long career dedicated to shaping cinematic spaces, atmospheres, and visual identities.

As a production designer, Lã Quý Tùng has collaborated with leading Vietnamese and international filmmakers, including Tran Anh Hung, Phillip Noyce, Charlie Nguyen, Ham Tran, Phan Dang Di, Bui Thac Chuyen, and Le Thanh Son. His film credits include Cyclo (1995), The Vertical Ray of the Sun (1999), The Quiet American (2002), Bi, Don’t Be Afraid! (2010), Dragon Trap (2009), Hollow (2013), and many other acclaimed productions.

Beyond cinema, Lã Quý Tùng is an accomplished painter whose practice explores abstraction, color, texture, and emotional landscapes. He is a member of both the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association and the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. His artwork has been exhibited internationally, including group exhibitions in France, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, as well as artistic residencies and workshops across Europe and Asia.

Throughout his career, Lã Quý Tùng has maintained a unique creative dialogue between painting and filmmaking. His sensitivity to space, material, and visual composition continues to define his approach to production design, bringing depth and authenticity to every cinematic environment he creates.

He currently lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
