Bob Nguyen is an accredited member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) whose international career has been defined by a deep commitment to the art and craft of celluloid filmmaking.

His journey began at Swinburne University in 2008, where he was mentored by legendary cinematographer Ellery Ryan ACS. After shooting his first project on Super 16mm, Bob developed a lasting passion for the original motion-picture medium and made the decision to build his career around the unique character, discipline, and magic of film.

In 2011, Bob shot his debut feature in Australia before relocating to Los Angeles to further pursue his passion for celluloid. He quickly established himself in the US as a young cinematographer fiercely devoted to the medium, earning a Master’s Degree in Cinematography and a prestigious Panavision LA award for his work on a 35mm feature.

Bob’s visual storytelling has since earned widespread recognition through an exceptional run at the ACS Awards. His accolades began in 2018, when he received the Gold Award for Features Cinema and Judges’ Choice at the ACS Victoria State Awards for Song Lang. In 2019, he followed with the Golden Tripod and the industry’s highest individual honor, the Milli Award for Australian Cinematographer of the Year.

His award-winning run continued in 2023, when his work on Black Hen and Muoi – The Curse Returns earned him two Gold Awards at the ACS Victoria Awards and two National Golden Tripods.

Most recently, at the 56th National ACS Awards in 2026, Bob was named Australian Cinematographer of the Year for a second time, receiving his second career Milli Award.

Bob’s latest feature, Ky Nam Inn (2025), was shot entirely on 35mm and premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival. While deeply rooted in the principles and traditions of photochemical filmmaking, Bob remains highly adaptable, embracing different visual mediums and formats to serve the unique demands of each story. His work spans a wide range of styles, scales, and conditions, always guided by the same principle: allowing the visual language of the medium to become an essential part of the story.
