Nine Sentimeters
Kirill Loginov
Russia. 2023. 19 min
The clown Mitya is to be fired from the circus. The new director doesn’t consider his trick to be impressive enough — Mitya can lift himself into the air, but only nine centimeters high. The director lays down terms that Mitya must learn to lift himself to an acceptable height. But the director doesn’t know that this nine centimeters is no mere trick. Mitya truly can hover above the ground.
KIRILL LOGINOV
Born in 1994 in Uzbekistan. When he was 14, his family moved to St. Petersburg, where he graduated from the St. Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television, majoring in directing documentary films. After graduating, he worked as a producer in a documentary film studio. Later, he began to try his hand in the advertising industry, as well as working with fashion videos and music videos. He studies the genre of magic realism. In his works, he likes to fill reality with his fantasies about it. He lives and works in Moscow.
DIRECTOR´S NOTE
As this is my first fiction film, its plot fully resonates in my heart. This is the story of a clown who knew how to fly. Just a little. A mere nine centimeters high. We all have a little of Mitya in us, which is why I decided to shoot this movie. After all, to get to the top, you don’t need anyone’s approval or recognition. This is a movie about a person who was able to tell themselves “you’ll do great”.
I sincerely love the genre of magic realism. In the coming years, I’d like to shoot a “therapeutic” movie of the same genre. A movie that will uncover buried emotions and remind the viewer of what’s most important.
