Prabhath Roshan wins Second Best DOP

For the film Riverstone (Lalith Rathnayake) Sri Lanka

PRABHATH ROSHAN (born in 1973) is an accomplished Sri Lankan cinematographer and producer whose distinguished career in the arts and film industry spans more than three decades. He began his professional journey in 1992 as a Camera Assistant and, through his dedication, technical expertise, and passion for visual storytelling, steadily advanced to become a Chief Lighting Director. At a relatively young age, he established himself as a cinematographer, initially gaining recognition for his work in television dramas before making a significant contribution to Sri Lankan feature cinema.

Renowned for his distinctive visual sensibility, technical mastery, and refined approach to cinematography, Roshan is regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s leading cinematographers. His ability to integrate visual artistry, atmosphere, composition, lighting, and emotional storytelling has earned him considerable recognition both nationally and internationally. His cinematographic work has contributed to several acclaimed Sri Lankan feature films, receiving honours at prestigious international and national film awards.

Among his most notable international achievements are three Best Cinematographer Awards. He received the Best Cinematographer Award for RIVERSTONE at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), China, in 2025, where the film competed in the Asian New Talent Competition. The Shanghai International Film Festival is accredited by FIAPF as a Grade “A” international film festival.
Roshan subsequently received the Best Cinematographer Award for RIVERSTONE at the 2nd Asian Art Film Festival (AAFF), Macau, in 2026, where the film competed in the Main Competition. He had previously received the Best Cinematographer Award for GHARASARAPA at the 1st Ceylon International Film Festival (CEYIFF), USA, in 2022, where the film competed in the Feature Film Competition.

At the national level, Roshan was honoured with the Best Cinematography Award for ALOKO UDAPADI at the 6th Derana Film Awards, Sri Lanka, in 2018.

In addition to his distinguished career as a cinematographer, Prabhath Roshan is also the producer of the internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan feature film RIVERSTONE.

With more than thirty years of professional experience, extensive artistic vision, and internationally recognized achievements, Prabhath Roshan continues to make a significant contribution to Sri Lankan cinema. Through his work as both a cinematographer and producer, he remains committed to advancing the artistic and technical standards of Sri Lankan filmmaking and strengthening its growing presence on the international stage.
