Jeo Baby
India. 2023. 114 min
The Core unveils the captivating narrative of Mathew and Omana, a seemingly harmonious couple residing in the serene village of Teekoy in the Kottayam district of Kerala. Mathew Devassy, a retired Co-operative bank secretary with a stellar reputation in the community, reluctantly steps into the realm of politics to contest a Panchayath by-election, upon his party’s request. However, shockingly, just two days after submitting his nomination, Omana files for divorce, plunging their relationship into turmoil.
The film delves into the concealed secret that silently erodes their facade of familial bliss, sparking a town-wide sensation with the news of their divorce. Despite efforts from concerned family members and the church, Omana remains resolute in her quest for justice and liberation.
As Mathew grapples with the crumbling foundation of his family, initially denying the reality, he ultimately recognizes that Omana’s decision is not just for her own sake but also a path to the happiness he’s long denied himself.
The Core is a poignant exploration of the intricate dynamics of a marriage, the pursuit of justice, and the quest for personal fulfillment, set against the backdrop of a close-knit village community.
