PRESENTATION
One more year the dates of ImagineIndia Madrid Indian Film Festival, 7th Edition, are nearer. Established in 1999 as a pioneering event for showing Indian , Asian and Arab films.
23rd may – 2nd june, 2008. This can be felt as all the workers of the organization seem to be nervious as it was the first day of the festival.
Will we get this film, will be coming that director, have been finished the translations, have we got those stills etc ?
An enourmous job done by these mens and womens searching films, directors, artists all over the world. But it,s an inmense pleasure having the oportunity to contact, to talk to peoples from the other end of the world, so different to us. If Cinema is these days an universal language, our festival ImagineIndia is the event where they meet all the caracters of this language for talking about projects, sharing a beer, thinking of the future. For 11 days this festival is a belonging to different cultures for exchanging their art, their hopes.
Making it posible to what once John Lennon said, ” Imagine there is no country, no religions too, Imagine all the people, living life in peace, hope someday you will join us” So as he sang, 80 films from India, Asia and Arab countries, many languages, original version or subtitled, laughs or tears, but viewing in a cinema hall in a total silent peace.
This is ImagineIndia, hope someday you will join us.
HISTORY OF THE FESTIVAL
It begins as far as 1999 with the sponsorship of M- 80 Radio and Gomaespuma, and has programmed the most important indian films and the most outstanding indian film directors have been through our event. Mira Nair, Aamir Khan, Sharmila Tagore, Deepa Mehta, Goutam Ghose, Adoor Gopalakrishnan have attended the fest. with their films in hand. Not less importance to be given to the participation of spanish directors as Fernando Colomo, Carlos Saura, Verónica Forqué, Goya Toledo, etc..
The type of films and the Retrospectives organized solely tell about the high level attained by the festival. To be noted among those the retrospectives : Mira Nair, Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Raj Kapoor, Rithwik Ghatak, Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan , etc..
EDITION 2008
The next edition is full of new ideas, more sections, films, countries and venues.
37 indian films, 20 asian and 3 arab show itself the importance of the event.
In the Indian Section , It,s to be highlighted the Retrospectives of Buddhadeb Dasgupta, in the Spanish Film Institute, and that of Mani Kaul. If the first has won Venice Film Festival with the film Uttara, the second has won many awards with the feature Uski Roti.
In the Asian Section we can stress the Retrospectives of Hou Hsiao Hsien and Zang Ke Jia. And finally 3 films of Farida Belyazidincluded in Arab Section.
