Vinod Kapri (born 15 August 1972) is an award-winning filmmaker , author and former Television Journalist . He won the prestigious national award for his debut film Can’t Take This Shit Anymore in 2014.
He made his feature debut with “Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho” (2015) – a socio-legal satire that received extensive critical acclaim. Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho, a social-political satire inspired by true incident in Rajasthan, was received critical acclaim from some quarters. The film earned rave reviews from the likes of Amitabh Bachchan , Raju Hirani and National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar.
Vinod’s sharp observations of people and dialect were well noticed; film critics discovered that his craft of satire writing has striking similarities with humour of notable writers like Sri Lal Shukla, Manohar Shyam Joshi, Kashinath Singh and K P Saxena.
His second feature film Pihu, released globally in 2018 has been widely appreciated in prestigious international film festivals. Pihu was the opening film Indian panorama section of 48th India international film festival ( IFFI GOA ).
Pihu won the Grand Prize for Best Feature Film in the International Competition category and the People’s Choice award for Best Film at the 14th Trans-Saharan International Film Festival.
His powerful documentary film 1232 kms (2021) about the heartbreaking journey of migrant workers during the first covid lockdown earned tremendous critical acclaim and won a national award.
Pyre (film), is his latest film had its world premiere at the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in the Official Competition section where it was the only film in the competition category and won the best film PÖFF Audience Award. Pyre was the opening film at the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival, marking its Indian premier, and has won the Jury Special Mention Award in the Asian Cinema Competition section.
