Abylai Marat gets Second for Best Actor at Imagineindia 2025

He has won the Second Best Actor Award for the film Deal at The Border (Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi) Kyrgystan

Abylai Marat was born on September 6, 1992, in Kyrgyzstan. He is a multidisciplinary artist, actor, screenwriter, and director of commercials. Having studied both visual arts and theater, Abylai combines a strong artistic background with a passion for cinema.

From 2004 to 2008, he studied at the Art Boarding School named after Turguebay Sadykov, and later, from 2010 to 2012, he trained at the Tunguch Theater Studio. His versatility has allowed him to work as an actor, production designer, assistant director, and scriptwriter on numerous film and television projects.

Abylai’s acting career includes roles in both feature and short films, such as Orphans, Girl in Red 2, Call of God (directed by Kim Ki-duk), Motherland, Escape (Kachkyn), Verdict, Moment, and many others. He is also the writer, director, and lead actor of the independent film Dreamers. His work extends to commercial directing, including projects such as the Taylolhot advertising campaign.

In addition to his film career, Abylai is skilled in horseback riding, swimming, and various sports, performing most of his stunts himself. His creative and physical abilities make him a versatile performer, both on stage and on screen.

His films have been recognized at major international festivals. Call of God premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was later screened at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Escape (Kachkyn) had its premiere at the Busan International Film Festival. In 2024, Abylai received the Best Actor Award (Central Asia & Turkic Peoples) at the Eurasia International Film Festival in Almaty.

Today, Abylai Marat continues to develop as an actor, artist, and filmmaker, contributing to the growth of Central Asian cinema on the international stage.
