Women behind the Short Ru Ba Ru (Kapil Tanwar)

Anvita Gupta is a Singapore- and India-based multipotentialite—an actor, writer, and producer with a dynamic background in marketing, editorial, and advertising. After earning a degree in Marketing and Communication, she began her career as an Account Manager with JWT Singapore (Frito Lay division) and later wrote for Cosmopolitan magazine. Despite a thriving corporate career, Anvita pivoted toward her true passion: storytelling.
Her transition into film began with Indian-led productions in Singapore, where she quickly became known for her ability to seamlessly take on multiple creative and logistical roles—production manager, second unit assistant director, and costume stylist. Her breakout behind-the-scenes project, Bin Bulaaye starring Naseeruddin Shah and Ira Dubey, premiered at Jio MAMI 2019 and received a Filmfare nomination in 2020. She followed this with supporting roles to acclaimed series and features including 4 More Shots Please (Season 2), Paatal Lok (Season 1), and key production and acting contributions to Before Life After Death, now streaming on Netflix APAC.

As an actor, she’s starred in internationally recognized independent films such as Lizard on the Wall by Cannes-featured director K. Rajagopal, and Tashi by Shilpa Krishnan Shukla—winning Best Supporting Actor at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival.
In 2023, she took on a crucial creative and production role in Bayaar (Dust and the Wind), a cross-cultural feature starring Vinay Pathak, where her self-taught expertise in prosthetics and visual effects added value across departments. That same year, she stepped into her first role as associate producer for the period feature The Killing Ganj, leading its international pitching strategy.
In 2024, Anvita founded SHADAM FILMS, named in honour of her grandmothers and inspired by the strength of Goddess Durga. Her debut short as producer, RU BA RU (Face to Face), explores themes of caste, gender, and performance through the lens of two sisters in rural Rajasthan. The film has already made a mark on the festival circuit—winning Best Short Fiction at Jaipur International Film Festival 2025 and being selected for Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival 2025 and Imagine India International Film Festival Madrid 2025.

Emerging from her tech background, she immerses herself in the world of fine arts, recognizing its power to transcend boundaries and ignite imaginations.
Her cinematic venture under her banner Art Aware, “The Art of Shantiniketan,” stands as a testament to her commitment to cultural exploration.
Now, along with Shadam Films, Anita spearheads “RU BA RU,” a culturally rich project amplifying women’s narratives, embodying her mission to shatter global barriers through storytelling.
Beyond filmmaking, she’s a compassionate philanthropist, founding an award-winning charitable organization “Titliyan,” a haven for underprivileged children in Noida, fueled by her profound understanding of urban realities and dedication to women’s empowerment.
Amidst her endeavors, she actively seeks to propel new talent and uplift artists in the filmmaking realm. Her passion for storytelling fuels her search for narratives that resonate with her creative instincts, ensuring her journey continues to inspire and uplift.

Priyanka’s journey into filmmaking is deeply rooted in her multicultural upbringing, a foundation in textile design, and a diverse career spanning business and marketing. In pursuit of her entrepreneurial journey, she co-founded CHANGE, a womenswear pret brand in 2009, with the philosophy and zeal to bring about a change by creating a unique platform for young designers to not only showcase their work and retain design credit but by also using part of the sale proceeds from every collection towards education of a girl child. True to her commitment of giving back to the design eco-system, she has been a guest faculty at NIFT apart from working closely with the Ministry of Textiles and The United Nations.

These experiences shaped her perspective and instilled a passion for storytelling as a transformative art form. As a vocal advocate for inclusive narratives, she joined RU BA RU as an Executive Producer, drawn to its poignant exploration of resilience and survival. She believes in the power of cinema to challenge norms, amplify marginalized voices, and spark meaningful dialogue.
