Devendra Golatkar nominated for Best DOP at Imagineindia 2025

Devendra Golatkar is a Bombay based cinematographer. After graduating as an Electronics Engineer, Devendra pursued his interest in photography & filmmaking.

He studied filmmaking at Film & Television Institute of India (FTII). ‘Who thought of Little Boy?’ the FTII diploma film won the Kodak Film school Award for Cinematography across Asia Pacific Region. Jury head Don Burgess, ASC said that Devendra’s work has a strong use of light & shadow in a very natural quality.

Devendra developed a keen eye for capturing the essence of the moment & the space while shooting several documentaries like ‘And we play on’ that won National Award for best non feature film and ‘Bitter Seeds’ that won Green Screen Award at IDFA, Amsterdam, Oxfam Global Justice Award & Jury Award at Green Film Festival, Seoul.

Key inspirations are the works of Conrad Hall, ASC & Bruno Delbonnel, ASC, AFC. Devendra has since shot several feature films including Nagrik , Gosht eka Paithanichi and In the Name of Fire ( Swaha).

For ‘Nagrik’ Devendra won the Maharashtra State Award for Best Cinematography. The storyline of Nagrik is about a press journalist who stands up against the system . The film evolves over the length of a year covering big Indian festivals like Diwali, Ganesh Festival, Dahi Handi. The inner journey & turmoil of the protagonist Shyam Jagdale ( played by Sachin Khedekar) was depicted by the city montages that underlined greed, violence, pain, disparity in the society that is observed on Mumbai streets.
